The DRA is a federal-state partnership created by Congress in 2000 to promote and encourage the economic development of the lower Mississippi River Delta region and Alabama Black Belt.  DRA invests in projects supporting transportation infrastructure, basic public infrastructure, workforce training, and business development.  DRA’s mission is to help create jobs, build communities, and improve the lives of those who reside in the 252 counties and parishes of the eight-state region.

Delta Fellowship Program

About the Fellowship

The Delta Fellowship Program provides professional development and training opportunities for postsecondary education students passionate about the Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions, economic and community development, and public policy.

DRA selects a limited number of fellows to work under the guidance and mentorship of agency staff. Although job duties vary by division, prospective fellows can apply for a position according to their interests. Each fellowship varies in duration based on agency needs. 

To be eligible to apply, prospective applicants must be enrolled at a four-year university, two-year college, vocational/technical school, or continuing education program. Experience working, living, or studying in the DRA footprint is preferred but not required.

Fellowship positions are limited and highly competitive.
